E-Way Bill Checklist for Road Transport Shippers
By ATTPL Fleet · · 2 min read
A practical e-way bill checklist for shippers and transporters: when it is needed, Part A and Part B, validity, vehicle changes and common mistakes.

What an e-way bill is
An e-way bill is an electronic document generated on the GST e-way bill portal for the movement of goods. It carries details of the consignment, the supplier, the recipient and the vehicle, and is checked by officers during transit.
When it is needed
Generally, an e-way bill is required when the value of goods in a consignment exceeds ₹50,000. Some goods are exempt, and states can set their own limits for movement within the state, so check the current rules for your goods and route.

Part A and Part B
- Part A: GSTIN of supplier and recipient, delivery place, invoice number and date, value, HSN code and reason for transport
- Part B: transport details — vehicle number for road transport
- The supplier, recipient or transporter can generate it; the transporter can update Part B
Validity
Validity depends on the distance. For normal cargo it is one day for every 200 km or part of it; over-dimensional cargo has a shorter distance per day. If goods cannot reach in time, the validity can be extended within the allowed window around expiry.
