FTL vs PTL Road Freight: A Guide for Jaipur Shippers
By ATTPL Fleet · · 2 min read
Full truck load or part truck load? Compare FTL and PTL road freight on cost, transit time, handling and risk to choose the right option from Jaipur.

What FTL and PTL mean
In full truck load (FTL), one shipper books the whole truck and the goods travel directly from origin to destination. In part truck load (PTL), also called LTL, several shippers share space in one truck, and goods may be consolidated and transferred at hubs on the way.
Cost
FTL is priced per truck, so it is economical when you can fill most of the vehicle. PTL is priced by weight or volume, so it suits smaller shipments. As a rule of thumb, compare the PTL quote with the FTL quote once your load reaches about half of a truck's capacity.

Transit time and handling
- FTL: direct movement, fewer stops, faster and more predictable
- PTL: consolidation and hub transfers add time
- FTL: goods are loaded and unloaded once, so less handling
- PTL: more handling, so packaging matters more
Which one to choose
- Choose FTL for large, urgent, fragile or high-value consignments
- Choose PTL for small, regular shipments where cost matters more than speed
- Mix both: FTL for bulk dispatches and PTL for top-ups
Tips for shippers in Jaipur
Plan dispatches early in peak seasons, share accurate weight and dimensions, pack goods for the mode you choose, and keep invoices and e-way bills ready before the truck arrives.

Frequently asked questions
Is PTL always cheaper than FTL?
For small loads, yes. As the load grows towards a full truck, FTL usually becomes cheaper per tonne.
Is FTL faster?
Generally yes, because the truck goes directly from origin to destination without hub transfers.
Do PTL shipments need an e-way bill?
E-way bill rules depend on the value and nature of goods, not on FTL or PTL. Follow GST e-way bill rules for every consignment.
